Several areas in Silchar still under water, rain prediction till June 22
Silchar: The situation remained grim in the southern Assam city of Silchar owing to heavy rainfall over the past few days as many areas are still under water.
Several areas on Sonai Road, Link Road, national highway, Hailakandi Road have been under water for the last three to four days.
The regional meteorological centre, Guwahati, has predicted that the Barak Valley comprising three districts — Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi — is very likely to witness rainfall and thunderstorms till June 22.

The Cachar district administration has clamped Sec 144 of the CrPC in the venerable Bethukandi dyke area of the Barak river in Silchar to minimize the footfall of people. The breach of the dyke last year caused massive devastation in Silchar city.
Pradip Dutta Roy, chief convener of Barak Democratic Front, said around 2.5 lakh people of Silchar have been affected. The roads have been blocked due to heavy rainfall, making communication with Meghalaya and Dima Hasao difficult. TNN
