Police shoot prime murder accused during arrest attempt
Kalaburagi: Kalaburagi City police opened fire Saturday night while trying to arrest the prime accused in the murder of financier Anil Rathod, son-in-law of former minister Revunaik Belamagi, causing excitement in the city.Station Bazar police traced the accused, Ishwar Rathod, to Kesaratagi village on the outskirts of Kalaburagi. Police said Ishwar attempted to attack personnel Shivalinga, Anil and Sanganna during the arrest. They said police inspector Gurugowda Patil shot Ishwar in the left leg in self-defence.Ishwar Rathod was injured in the firing and was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Kalaburagi, where he is undergoing treatment.Following the incident, city police commissioner Dr Sharanappa SD visited the hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured police staff. He said residents of Rehmath Nagari — autorickshaw drivers Haddi Imran, Minahaz and Abhishek — were arrested and interrogated in connection with the murder. Based on information provided by the three, police traced Ishwar Rathod to Kesaratagi village.The accused told police that financial issues led to the murder.
