The incident took place a week ago and one of the locals in Raidurgam on Saturday alerted the 108 service, who brought the cruel act of step-mother into light.

The hospital authorities then alerted the police on seeing the grievous burn injuries on the child’s thighs, abdomen, hands, back and other parts.
Deputy commissioner of police (SHE team), C Anasuya said that it was a week ago that the step-mother Dhana Lakshmi, on seeing the girl pass urine inside the house, took out a hot ladle and allegedly burnt the girl indiscriminately despite the girl reeling with pain.
"The locals brought the issue into light. After Area hospital authorities told the police, Bharosa inspector Jyothi Lakshmi went and attended the girl. The step-mother, who is presently pregnant, was upset since a week after seeing the girl pass urine inside the house. The injured girl is now shifted to Niloufer hospital for better treatment,’’ Anasuya said.
Two years ago, the victim’s biological mother died after she set herself ablaze due to alleged harassment by her husband Shiva, a labour. After his first wife's death, Shiva got remarried to Dhana Lakshmi, who happens to be the younger sister of Shiva’s first wife. Shiva has three children from his first wife and the victim is the youngest. The victim’s other two siblings are presently with her grandmother.
"A few days ago the girl’s school teacher complained to Dhana Lakshmi that the girl had been passing urine in the classroom and other places at the school instead of toilet. Later when the same thing happened at the house, the already annoyed Lakshmi burnt the girl,’’ Bharosa inspector Jyothi Lakshmi said.
Shiva, who is a resident of Babu Khan huts in Raidurgam, did not care to take the injured daughter to a doctor in the last one week. Raidurgam police registered a case under Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC and Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act against Lakshmi and Shiva.
