Gandhi hospital doc dies of cardiac arrest in hotel

Hyderabad: In yet another case of death owing to sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack in Telangana, a 37-year-old doctor in the state-run Gandhi Hospital died in a city hotel on Monday morning. He died in front of his wife, who is also a doctor.
Dr Phanindra, a PG resident in the department of paediatric surgery, complained of uneasiness and breathlessness and collapsed in the hotel room.“His wife immediately dialled an ambulance and rushed him to a private hospital, but he had already succumbed. His body had turned bluish by then,” said a fellow PG doctor working with Dr Phanindra.
Dr Phanindra’s wife is a gynaecologist in the district headquarters hospital in Kamareddy. She was about to leave for her workplace when her husband collapsed. The couple spent the weekend in a hotel before going off to their respective workplaces, it is learnt. It is, however, not clear if the doctor was given cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). “He was initially taken to a private hospital in Padmaraonagar and later brought to Gandhi Hospital. He had already succumbed by then,” said Dr M Raja Rao, superintendent, Gandhi Hospital.
Dr Phanindra did not have any comorbidities associated with risk of heart disease, his batchmates confirmed.
Recently, 16-year-old Ch Sachin died of a heart attack in Asifabad on May 18 hours before his birthday. He was out shopping, collapsed and died while undergoing treatment. News of his death went viral after his parents cut a birthday cake with his body on the side to fulfil his wish. On May 20, a 13-year-old girl of Anantharam village in Karakagudem died in a Bhadrachalam hospital with doctors confirming that her death was due to a heart attack.
