HYDERABAD: MIM MLA Ahmed Balala's gunman Mohammed Jani, who opened fire at assailants when they attacked Akbaruddin Owaisi in Barkas in April, is likely to be elevated as a head constable shortly.A few days ago, the city police sent a letter tothe state government recommending promotion for Jani. When contacted, deputycommissioner of police (City Security Wing) R B Naik confirmed thereports."We requested the government to promote Jani. He showedexemplary presence of mind in protecting the MLA at the time of attack,'' Naiksaid.It is learnt that MIM has requested the city police and thestate government to reward Jani suitably. On April 30, AkbaruddinOwaisi while on a padayatra in Barkas along with Ahmed Balala and other MIMleaders was attacked by assailants reportedly owing allegiance to MohammedPahelwan and his family members. When Balala and few others tried torepulse the attack, they suffered injuries with sharp-edged weapon. It was atthat time, Jani opened fire at the assailants and subsequently, they fled fromthe location. However, one of the attackers died on the spot due to a bulletinjury.Following the attack, Akbaruddin Owaisi is being given fourgunmen and a bullet proof car by the state government besides providing securityat his Banjara Hills residence. Prior to the attack, Akbaruddin Owaisi used torefuse security provided by the city police.Recently, the citypolice have decided to open a history-sheet against Mohammed Pahelwan and otheraccused in the Chandrayangutta police station.
