HYDERABAD: After noticing discrepancies in the attendance of faculty working in its affiliated colleges, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH), has issued notices to engineering colleges under its purview.
The JNTUH officials noticed that many faculty members, who were present during the fact-finding committee (FFC) inspection have either not marked their attendance using biometrics to date or do not even have minimum attendance.
The varsity has issued a notice to the colleges making them liable for lapses in attendance.
"The faculty members without minimum attendance will not be considered and it will be treated as faculty deficiency," the notice said directing the colleges to submit their compliance and action will be initiated against the erring colleges.
The notice also read that the university is considering it as a serious lapse and advised the colleges to ensure that the faculty marks attendance on Aadhar-based biometric attendance system (ABAS) with out delay.
Registrar of JNTUH, M Manzoor Ali confirmed that notices have been served as a first warning. "We have received response from all colleges and are compiling data."
Meanwhile, the faculty demanded that the university should monitor biometric attendance strictly to put an end to 'fake' faculty. "If attendance is monitored, this can be ended. JNTUH should appoint an employee exclusively to monitor attendance," said A Santosh Kumar, president, Telangana Schools Technical Colleges Employees Association.
