Hyderabad: The stretch surrounding KBR Park is set to become signal-free as part of Hyderabad’s ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion in key urban corridors.Under two separate packages, the GHMC is constructing a series of flyovers and underpasses around the KBR Park junction and Banjara Hills at a cost over Rs 1,000 crore. The project aims to streamline vehicular movement and reduce delays along one of the city’s busiest traffic corridors.Officials said all proposed flyovers and underpasses will be built within existing road medians, without encroaching on KBR Park land. The GHMC is also planning to prioritise steel flyovers over conventional concrete structures, citing faster construction timelines.Once completed, the project is expected to create a fully signal-free corridor from Jubilee Hills check post to Film Nagar. Grade separators have been proposed at key junctions, including Road No. 45, Film Nagar, Cancer Hospital and Mugdha Junction.According to GHMC estimates, the project could reduce air pollution levels by up to 72% by preventing 13.6 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas. It is also expected to save more than 40 crore litres of fuel annually.
