Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday said that three of the 12 documents listed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the revision of the draft electoral roll are not available in Telangana. He appealed to the state govt to ask the Centre to accept alternative documents in their place. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise will begin in Telangana on June 25. Owaisi said the AIMIM will conduct awareness programmes at the grassroots level. The party will also keep a legal team ready to assist voters whose names are missing from the electoral roll.According to Owaisi, three of the 12 documents listed by the ECI for the revision of the draft electoral roll, the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the Family Register, are not available in Telangana.“I appeal to the chief minister of Telangana and the chief secretary to apprise the Central Govt that these three documents are not available in the state and to suggest alternatives such as the PAN card, driving licence and Food Security Card. It is possible to make such a suggestion since the ECI’s list of documents is indicative and not exhaustive,” Owaisi said.Referring to Telangana’s pre-SIR exercise carried out in Sangareddy district, Owaisi said that the ECI must find solutions to address certain anomalies, such as the age gap between a father and son.Citing data from the Zaheerabad constituency in Sangareddy district, Owaisi said that of the 2,82,236 voters in the constituency, 1,89,270 were mapped and 92,966 were unmapped. “Anomalies were reported for 1,79,079 voters, and only about 19,000 voters were mapped correctly,” he said.Among the anomalies cited were cases in which a father and son had an age gap of just 15 years, a voter was listed as having six children, and a grandfather and grandson had an age difference of 40 years. “Several Booth Level Officers’ (BLOs) names are on the anomalies list in Sangareddy. In 2002, the ECI prepared the voters’ list manually. If the ECI made a mistake, why should voters suffer? We request the ECI to address these anomalies so that no genuine voter’s name is omitted from the draft list,” Owaisi said. The AIMIM president said that his party would work continuously to ensure that no genuine voter’s name is omitted from the list and that a legal team would be kept ready to assist those whose names are missing from the draft list.Owaisi also condemned the US govt’s alleged attack on an oil tanker near Oman, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of three Indian sailors.
