Imphal: The CBSE has revoked its affiliation from 25 schools in strife-torn Manipur after the state government informed the central board that it had not issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to these schools. The development came days after Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Parliament during the ongoing Lok Sabha session that Manipur achieved a zero dropout rate for the year 2021-22 for Class 10.Following requests from schools in Kuki-Zo dominated Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts, CBSE had given its affiliation to these educational institutions.A release issued by the joint secretary of Manipur’s school education department, Anjali Chongtham, on Tuesday said CBSE has “withdrawn the affiliation, which was recently granted” to the 25 schools with “immediate effect”.Giving reasons for the annulment, it said the NOC submitted by these schools “has not been issued by the authorized functionaries of the state government” and for cancellation of the affiliation as requested by the state government in its letter written on Friday. The release warned of taking necessary action against “those responsible for flouting rules and regulations” of the state government or of CBSE.“If any school is found not following due process in the future, necessary action will be initiated against them also, apart from withdrawing of affiliation by competent authority,” it warned.Sources said the zonal education officer (ZEO) of Churachandpur did not sign the NOCs submitted by the schools which obtained the CBSE affiliation.A few days ago, the school education department, reacting to a post by one Lamtinthang Haokip on ‘X’ claiming that 20 schools from Churachandpur and 16 from Kangpokpi had been affiliated to CBSE, had clarified that no NOC for affiliation with the central board had been issued by the state government to any institution in the two districts since May this year. When the post went viral, an official team led by education minister The Bashantkumar met the secretary of the Union education ministry and submitted a letter in this regard. The last time the government issued an NOC was in May 2020.
