IMPHAL:
Manipur transport, tribal affairs and hills minister Vungzagin Valte on Sunday said that construction of a new medical college, which will offer 100 MBBS setas, would begin soon near Mata village in Churachandpur district.
This would be the second state-run medical college after Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East. The medical college will be funded by the health and family welfare ministry and the approach road to the college will be constructed by the Manipur public works department.
The college will be constructed by the Manipur Police Housing Corporation. For the construction, the central ministry has approved and sanctioned Rs 325 crore, out of which the first instalment has been released to the state government, said a statement issued by Manipur information and public relations department.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of visiting the construction site of the proposed college, the minister said that the college will be constructed over an area of 25 acres.
