INDORE: Key accused in police constable turned Congress leader Santosh Dubey’s murder in 2009, Jitendra Yadav alias Jitu Baba was shot dead at point-blank range in full public view in Sudama Nagar on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident, which is being seen as a kind of gang war between Jitendra’s group and those having allegiance to the slain Congress leader Santosh Dubey and notorious criminal Shakir Chacha, took place at around 2pm near Sethi Gate just after Jitendra, 40, along with his aide Pankaj Yadav, 30, came out of a private bank.

Sensing danger, Jitu asked Pankaj Yadav to immediately start the car belonging to a close friend Bharat Singh. One of the two assailants fired shots at the car’s window pane to target Jitu sitting on the left front seat. Thereafter, the two assailants opened fire from point blank range. The duo also opened fire on Pankaj, after which he fell on the front seat. The attackers, subsequently, fled in another car, which was already occupied by two others.
Jitendra and Pankaj were rushed to a private hospital, where the doctors declared him as brought dead, while Pankaj is battling for his life at ICU. According to SP West Abid Khan, the murder seems to have been well planned and the killers could well have been following Jitu and Pankaj in their car.
Based on the statement of injured Pankaj, police have booked four persons for the murder, including notorious criminal Shakir Chacha, Feroz, Imran and Guddu Dubey and further investigations are underway, added Khan.
Among the four accused, Guddu Dubey is the sibling of Congress cultural cell leader Santosh Dubey, who was allegedly shot dead at a gymnasium in Scheme 71-Chandan Nagar in May 2009 by three persons, including Jitendra Yadav, Pintu Thakur and Alpesh Chouhan.
One Yaval Somani was killed over a dispute related to land plot in Somani Nagar, Aerodrome Road. City police sources are carrying out investigations to find out if the murder plot was executed to avenge Santosh Dubey’s killing or it was the result of an old rivalry between notorious criminal Shakir Chacha and Jitendra Yadav over the killing of Jitendra’s close aide Anil Soni in 2010.
