Many hurt in Indore, Dewas and Ujjain by Chinese manjha
Indore/Ujjain: Multiple people were injured across Indore, Ujjain and Dewas districts with Chinese manjha as traditional kite flying reached a frenzy on Makar Sankranti on Wednesday.In Indore, at least four people were injured in separate incidents involving Chinese manjha within a span of a few hours on Wednesday.
In an incident reported from the Bhanwarkuan area, a youth riding a motorcycle suffered a deep cut to his throat after coming into contact with the thread. Blood reportedly spilled onto the road as the string slashed his neck. The injured was identified as Hemraj Ravindra Chourasia, a resident of 115 Chandmari Eent Ka Bhatta.Chourasia worked at a petrol pump and was heading to his relative's house in Mangliya after finishing his shift when the accident occurred. Police said the incident took place near the Teen Imli area, where locals immediately rushed him to a private hospital. His condition was stated to be stable.Within hours, a second case was reported from Pardeshipura area, where Mahesh Soni, a resident of Nanda Nagar, sustained a neck injury due to Chinese thread. He was also admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Doctors said the injury was caused while trying to protect himself from the sharp string.Another incident was reported from Juni Indore, where Prem Bhandari, a resident of Tillore who distributed milk, was injured while crossing the Juni Indore Bridge on his motorcycle. According to information, the manjha suddenly came in front of him, and to avoid a fatal injury, he tried to shield himself. This resulted in a serious wound near his neck, requiring 8 stitches.In a separate incident reported from Ramanand Nagar, where Madhav Vasuniya, son of Ghanshyam Vasuniya, suffered facial injuries after being hit by Chinese manjha. He received around 10 stitches. He was initially taken to the district hospital, where he was given primary treatment before being referred to a private hospital. Madhav told doctors that he was on his way to buy a kite when the string came in front of him. Though he tried to dodge it, the manjha sliced through his beard and face.Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said, "People should strictly avoid flying kites with banned strings and ensure safety measures, especially during festivals. Any violation will invite strict action."In Ujjain, injuries caused by banned Chinese kite string sent more than half a dozen people to the district hospital in a single day. From early morning, victims with deep cuts caused by the sharp nylon thread began arriving for treatment.According to doctors on duty at the district hospital, more than 6 injured persons were treated till late evening. Duty doctor S N Bhilwar said that while most of the injured were discharged after primary treatment, some patients with serious wounds opted to leave for private hospitals for further care.The first serious case was reported in the morning when a 28-year-old man from Ratlam, identified as Antar, son of Mangilal Banjara, was brought to the hospital by his companion. The youth, who was riding a motorcycle, suffered a deep cut on his throat after coming into contact with Chinese manjha and required 8 stitches.Soon after, a 45-year-old woman, Seema, wife of Bhimraj and a resident of Fazalpura, was admitted with severe injuries to both her legs after being struck by the sharp kite string. Doctors said she sustained deep cuts on both legs and was given more than a dozen stitches. Her condition was reported to be stable.Apart from these cases, six other people were treated at the district hospital for injuries caused by Chinese manjha. Most of them were discharged after first aid. The incidents once again underscored the dangers associated with the use of banned kite strings during festive celebrations and raised concerns over public safety.In Dewas, a man suffered a cut on his nose after coming into contact with the thread while on his way home.Pratham Singh Thakur, Vishram Bagh, was on his way from Bilawali to his home in Dewas when he came into contact with the Chinese thread near Krishi Mandi bridge. He was rushed to the hospital and also went to BNP police station.
