Massive fire destroys five tent warehouses in Khajrana area
Indore: A major fire broke out at a tent house godown in the Patel Nagar locality near Karbala in Khajrana area on Monday morning. The blaze spread quickly, destroying five interconnected warehouses and causing property damage estimated in crores of rupees. The affected warehouses, owned by Lokesh Soni, contained inflammable material, including decorative clothing, plastics and tent equipment. Due to high density of residential units surrounding the commercial complex, the incident caused panic among local residents. Plumes of thick smoke were visible from several kilometres away.Indore Municipal Corporation’s (IMC) fire department dispatched four fire tenders to the scene. Emergency teams faced logistical difficulties navigating the narrow lanes of the densely populated neighborhood to reach the source of the fire.To control the spread of the flames, the administration deployed advanced machinery, including earthmovers, to dismantle the metal tin roofing of the structures. “IMC’s specialized firefighting robot was utilised to direct high-pressure water into areas inaccessible to manual crew,” commissioner Kshitij Singhal said.
The firefighting operation lasted for approximately four hours and required more than 50 water tankers to completely extinguish the blaze. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, preliminary investigation suggested a short circuit could have triggered the incident. No casualty was reported and authorities have initiated an investigation into compliance with local safety norms.
