Kanpur: A fire broke out in shops on the ground floor of a four-storey building in Maniram Bagiya under the Pheelkhana police station area on Friday, triggering panic in the locality. However, the fire department safely evacuated the trapped people from the building and no casualties were reported.
According to reports, the control room, upon receiving information dispatched five fire tenders from the fire station Latouche Road, Colonelganj and Fazalganj, to the spot.
On reaching the site, fire personnel found that the ground floor shops of the 4-storey building, located in a narrow lane, were engulfed in flames, with a considerable number of people trapped on the upper floors.
Under the direction of the chief fire officer, Deepak Sharma, the fire fighting team launched a rescue operation for the trapped people. The team accessed an adjacent building via the rooftop and safely brought down the trapped individuals.
Subsequently, water pipes were extended from a considerable distance to surround the fire from all sides, and the blaze was brought completely under control.
