In a freak incident, a 44-year-old government primary school teacher who had gone to the Allen Forest Zoo located in Nawabganj area of the city for a picnic, died after being run over by a toy train.

KANPUR: In a freak incident, a 44-year-old government primary school teacher who had gone to the Allen Forest Zoo located in Nawabganj area of the city for a picnic, died after being run over by a toy train.According to the police, the accident occurred around 3 pm, when Anju Sharma, a resident of Bengali Colony in Rama Devi area of Chakeri, got stuck in her sari, fell on the track of the toy train she was trying to board and was run over by it.She suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital, where she died during treatment.Later, the teacher’s relatives and locals of Bengali Colony reached the mortuary and created a ruckus demanding strict action against those responsible for causing death to her.Police somehow pacified them.The zoo has been closed after the accident. On Sunday, the forensic team will investigate the spot, till then the zoo management has ordered the train to remain stationed at the spot.This is the first accident involving the toy train since its launch in 2014. Its maximum speed is 50 kilometres per hour; however, it is run at a speed of 12 kmph mostly.Anju’s husband Subodh Kumar has retired from the Indian Air Force.
“As the accident had occurred on the premise of the zoo, a team of forensic experts will investigate the site on Sunday. Further action will be based on the complaint of the family members and autopsy report and other findings,” said Colonelganj ACP Mohammad Akmal Khan.
