Man convicted for five years for trading in child pornography

Jhansi: The Additional Sessions and District Judge (Rape and Pocso) Kaniska Singh pronounced five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh to a 32-year-old accused for trading in child pornography here on Friday.

The accused Ramji of Ramganj, falling under Eirach police station of the district, was arrested by the CBI, New Delhi, on Nov 14, 2021, for his involvement in procuring and distributing child pornography on various social media platforms. During a raid of his house, the CBI confiscated three mobile phones and found that he had been operating through 55 different WhatsApp groups while trading over 300 inclement pornographic materials pertaining to minors obtained from various countries.

During further investigations by CBI ACB, Ghaziabad, Ajay Singh Gehlot, it was found that the accused earned around Rs 33,000 in the trade, which was remitted to his account in dollars.

Additional District Govt Council Tej Singh Gaur said that the accused was booked under 120B, 67B IT Act and Section 15(3) POCSO. He was released on bail around a year ago, while earlier his bail was rejected by the Supreme Court. Pronouncing maximum punishment while noting it a heinous crime that is disturbing for the society, the judge awarded five years of RI to the accused along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh.
