Married woman, paramour attempt suicide in Chaubepur
Kanpur: A married woman from Kanpur and her paramour from Hamirpur allegedly attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance near Lavkush College on Bandimata Road in Chaubepur area on Tuesday evening, police said.Passersby noticed the two lying unconscious on roadside and alerted police. Inspector-in-charge Durgesh Mishra said both were initially admitted to a CHC in an unconscious condition and were later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. Doctors said both are currently out of danger.According to police, the 20-year-old man, a street food vendor, had been living in Nehru Nagar in Kanpur for the past two years. He reportedly developed a relationship with an 18-year-old woman. Last year, the man allegedly eloped with the girl, following which her family lodged a complaint against him. He was subsequently arrested and sent to jail before being released on bail around 15 days ago.Meanwhile, the woman’s family later arranged her marriage in Chaubepur area. Police said the woman contacted the man on Tuesday and called him to meet. After spending time together near the college area in the evening, both allegedly consumed poison.Inspector Durgesh Mishra said families of both have been informed about the incident and further investigation is underway.
