Missile unit under Defence Corridor Expansion in city soon

Kanpur: A missile construction unit will be established in the city under the expansion of the Defence Corridor, boosting Kanpur’s industrial and strategic significance. The announcement was made by Satish Mahana during a review meeting on urban development held at Sarsaiyaghat.

Chairing the meeting, Mahana stressed that farmers in villages such as Gopalpur, Daulatpur and Mohipur should receive fair compensation for land acquired for the project. Officials informed that a proposal related to land purchase and reacquisition has already been sent to the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority.



To improve connectivity, Mahana directed officials to prepare a proposal linking Kanpur with the Ganga Expressway. He also instructed authorities to speed up construction of the proposed elevated corridor from Ramadevi to Gol Chauraha and ensure seamless connectivity from Jajmau to Chakeri Airport.

Traffic management was another key focus, with directions to construct an underpass at Narwal turn (ITBP) and ensure congestion-free movement along major routes, especially the Jajmau–airport stretch. Officials were also asked to streamline alternative routes to reduce travel time for passengers.

Addressing power issues, the Managing Director of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company said mobile transformers are being deployed in areas facing overloading. Mahana instructed that construction of the CTP at Baniyapurwa be completed by June 30, 2026.

He also directed officials to remove hurdles delaying the Ramadevi–Gol Chauraha flyover project and sought an explanation from a regional manager of UPSIDA for remaining absent from the meeting.

Taking a strict stance on private hospitals, Mahana ordered that treatment under Ayushman Bharat Yojana and the Chief Minister’s Financial Assistance Scheme must be provided at rates prescribed by Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGI), warning that non-compliant hospitals would be removed from the government panel.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Pramila Pandey, District Panchayat President Swapnil Varun, MLAs Neelima Katiyar, Saroj Kureel, Rahul Bachcha Sonkar, Surendra Maithani, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, Joint Police Commissioner Sankalp Sharma, and other officials.
