Kolkata: Acting on concerns raised by Rajarhat New Town BJP MLA Piyush Kanodia over civic preparedness before monsoon, West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) has initiated steps to clean and remove blockages from a major drainage line in New Town to prevent waterlogging. The drainage cleaning work will cover a 1.8-km stretch from Haldiram crossing on VIP Road to City Centre II along both sides of the Main Arterial Road in New Town. Authorities plan to complete work within 15 days.
"Drainage lines are choked and blocked in many places. Monsoon is arriving, and work needs to be taken up at the earliest to stop waterlogging," Kanodia said after meeting BMC officials.
HIDCO has started the process of engaging an agency to undertake the drainage maintenance work. The project cost has been estimated at Rs 35.4 lakh.
