Trader loses 53L in loan fraud

Kolkata: A trader from Burrabazar claimed to have lost Rs 53 lakh in an alleged loan fraud. The Burrabazar PS registered a case of fraud following a court order. The MG Road resident alleged that the accused persons persuaded him to provide a loan of Rs 53 lakh on assurances of interest payments. The complaint said after the loans were disbursed, interest was paid initially, but payments stopped soon after. The trader alleged that the principal amount was not returned and was misappropriated.The alleged occurrence was stated to have taken place on or before Dec 12, 2025. Police have registered the case under sections 16(2), 318(4) and 61(2) of the BNS. tnn
