Bail plea of woman accused in Deepak suicide case posted to Feb 6

Kozhikode: Kozhikode district sessions court has deferred the bail plea of the woman, who has been arrested under suicide abetment charges in connection with the death of Govindapuram native U Deepak, to Feb 6. She had uploaded a video accusing sexual harassment by Deepak during a private bus ride in Kannur.The case was adjourned to enable the police to submit their report. The woman approached the sessions court after Kunnamangalam magistrate court rejected her bail plea. Meanwhile, Kunnamangalam court is scheduled to consider police application to get police custody of the woman on Wednesday. The woman was arrested based on a complaint filed by Deepak's family, alleging abetment to suicide. Police said in their remand report that Deepak took the extreme step amid severe mental distress and defamation over uploading of the visuals on social media and fear that viewers would portray him as a sexual pervert. Police also noted in the report that an examination of CCTV footage from the private bus, in which the videos were allegedly recorded, showed Deepak and the woman boarding the bus and that nothing unusual occurred during the journey.
