‘Cong helped BJP win Thrissur, Nemom’
Kannur/Kochi: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Friday alleged that the Congress had paved way to BJP's victory in Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency in 2024 and the Nemom assembly constituency in 2016. He was responding to the allegations of CPM-BJP deal, raised by UDF leaders.Govindan told reporters that Thrissur was the BJP's lone win in a Lok Sabha constituency in the state and Nemom was an assembly seat they won in Kerala. Both happened due to a decline in Congress votes. "LDF always opposed the RSS and the BJP while the Congress, mainly under the leadership of V D Satheesan, had held talks with RSS leadership," Govindan said."Though the BJP won Nemom in 2016, LDF closed their account in the 2021 polls. Definitely, a similar outcome would happen in Thrissur. In the Lok Sabha election, Congress's votes declined by 84,000 in Thrissur. As a result, the BJP won the seat with a margin of 74,000 votes, while LDF's votes increased by 16,000. Who then helped BJP to win the seat?, he asked.Satheesan should apologise: SwarajMeanwhile, CPM state secretariat member M Swaraj said the continuation of Congress's long-standing communal alliance was evident as opposition leader V D Satheesan attended an RSS event and paid respects to Golwalkar's portrait.
Congress, which has a history of forming public communal alliances against EMS and AKG, continues this practice during and after elections, Swaraj told a news conference in Kochi. Swaraj said that the "CJP" tag suits Congress well."In 2006, just before the legislative assembly elections, Satheesan participated in the Golwalkar centenary celebrations organized by the RSS in Paravur. Golwalkar wrote ideologies advocating the eradication of Muslims, Christians and communists. Satheesan should apologise to secular Kerala for attending the centenary celebration of someone like Golwalkar. Clarity is needed on whether he would attend RSS events if invited again," Swaraj said.
