Elderly man dies of food poisoning in Kannur

Kannur: A 70-year-old man who was undergoing treatment at a hospital for suspected food poisoning died on Friday. The deceased was Vijayan of Poovathumkandi near Mattannur.The victim was one of more than 150 people who fell ill after having lunch during a festival at Karaputhiyedathu Madappura Sree Muthappan temple on Monday. Vijayan was first admitted to a private hospital and was then shifted to district hospital and later to AKG Hospital. The other people underwent treatment at Mattannur community health centre, Thalassery general hospital and nearby private hospitals. The authorities have not ascertained the exact source of contamination yet.
