IUML slams Kerala govt over compensation to Valparai accident victims
Kozhikode: Calling it a grave injustice, IUML has criticized the state govt for failing to announce compensation for the victims of the Valparai accident. IUML national vice-president KPA Majeed said that during major accidents of such magnitude, govts normally announce compensation considering the seriousness of the incident. However, he said the lack of any support for the families of those who died in the Valparai tragedy raises serious concerns. He said that 10 people, including the bus driver Noushad, lost their lives in the accident, while three others remain under treatment. Noushad's family has alleged that he did not receive adequate medical care and was not even allowed to be shifted to another hospital. He also noted that the govt promptly announced assistance following the fireworks accident in Thrissur, and alleged that there are widespread complaints of discrimination in this case. Majeed demanded that immediate relief and compensation be provided to the affected families without delay.
