KURTC starts Nedumbassery low-floor service from Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Following reports regarding the lack of bus and train connectivity between Malabar districts and Nedumbassery airport, the KURTC has launched a low-floor bus service between Malappuram and Nedumbassery.
The new service was flagged off by Malappuram MLA, P Ubaidulla on Thursday.
TOI reported on Monday that the insufficient train and bus services from major towns in Malabar to Eranakulam is a cause for serious concern, in the backdrop of the shifting of five services of wide bodied aircrafts from Karipur to Nedumbassery airport.
Different organizations including the Malabar chamber of commerce and Tirur chamber of commerce had also demanded more bus services to Nedumassery as more than 2,500 passengers are being forced to travel to Nedumbassery daily, along with their luggage.
The ticket fare for the new bus from Malappuram to Nedumbasery is Rs 240. The bus will conduct two services to Nedumbassery daily.
The first service will start from Malappuram at 4.45am and the bus will reach Nedumbassery at 8am. The return journey will start at 9am and the service will conclude journey at Malappuram at 12.45pm. The second service will start from Malappuram at 3pm and it will reach Nedumbasery at 6.45pm.
The return journey from Nedumbassery will start at 7.30pm and it will reach Malappuram at 11.15pm.
KSRTC has informed that the Nedumbassery service would be the first bus service from Malappuram to the southern districts.
At present, the Malappuram-Thiruvanathapuram service, which starts from Malappuram at 5.15am experiences heavy rush of passengers and the authorities are expecting that the new service will help resolve the issue.
