Former LU VC extends support to expelled students
Lucknow: Former Lucknow University (LU) vice-chancellor and social activist Prof Roop Rekha Verma on Monday lent her support to the three expelled LU students who have been protesting for the past few days against the decision of the administration.
These expelled students claim that they had gone to register a protest against fee hike in some courses, but LU expelled them on charges of obstructing the vice-chancellor’s movement and trying to damage his car.
Former LU Teachers Association (LUTA) president Neeraj Jain and Lucknow Central MLA Ravidas Mehrotra also came to support the agitation. Prof Verma said, “Students must be heard, and due process must be followed before such strict action is taken. Expulsion should be the last resort.”
