‘Kalkol’ planted for Alanganallur event in Madurai

MADURAI: Commercial tax and registration minister P Moorthy on Friday planted ‘kalkol’ (auspicious pole) in Alanganallur, marking the commencement of preparations for jallikattu festivities.
Moorthy said youth welfare and sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will attend the jallikattu in Alanganallur, and they have also invited chief minister M K Stalin. The chief minister has allowed jallikattu with certain guidelines based on which the event will be conducted.

Attractive prizes will be given away and the best bull and tamer will get a car each, he said.
All the bulls participating in the jallikattu will be given a gold coin. The district administration is also working with village coordination committees to conduct jallikattu in Avaniyapuram and Palamedu during Pongal festival. The bulls and tamers are given admission cards online. These formalities will be carried out with transparency and without any discrimination, Moorthy said.
Moorthy later inspected the screening of bulls and distributed fitness certificates to owners. He also inaugurated a PDS shop and panchayat office at Thindiyur village in Madurai east panchayat union. Later in the day, he presided over a review meeting with officials at the collectorate in which he discussed the preparatory works for jallikattu to be held in Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur.
