Man held at Madurai airport for falsifying age to secure Dubai job
Madurai: Immigration officials at Madurai Airport on Saturday apprehended a 54-year-old man who allegedly obtained a passport by falsifying his date of birth to bypass age restrictions for overseas employment. The accused, identified as Kannan from Sivaganga district, was intercepted around 7.45pm by an immigration officer while attempting to board a flight to Dubai on an employment visa. Suspicion was raised during document verification after discrepancies were noticed in his travel history. During questioning, Kannan allegedly admitted that his actual year of birth was 1972, as reflected in his three earlier passports. Fearing that his age would affect his employment prospects in Dubai, he reportedly altered his date of birth to April 7, 1982, on his Aadhaar card and used the forged document to obtain a fresh passport in Feb 2023. Based on a complaint from immigration authorities, Avaniyapuram Police Station registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Passport Act and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway. MSID:: 128680151 413 |
