Three men sentenced to 30 years jail for raping student

Ramanathapuram: The Ramanathapuram fast-track mahila court on Saturday convicted and sentenced three men to undergo 30 years imprisonment in a case pertaining to the gang rape of a woman after assaulting her boyfriend on a beach in Ramanathapuram district in 2022.The case of the prosecution is that the survivor, a college student, came to a beach along with her boyfriend in Ramanathapuram district on March 23, 2022. Three youths who came to the beach with weapons sexually assaulted the girl after assaulting and tying up her boyfriend. They also robbed the gold jewellery from the girl and escaped.Based on a complaint from the boyfriend, police registered a case and arrested M Padma Eswaran, S Dineshkumar and D Ajithkumar. Subsequently, police also arrested Padma Eswaran's mother, Villammal, who was in possession of the stolen jewels. After completing the investigation, police filed a final report before the court.Mahila court judge, K Kavitha, convicted and sentenced the trio to undergo 30 years imprisonment. The judge also convicted and sentenced Villammal to undergo two years imprisonment.
