Madurai: Aravind Eye Hospital organised a human chain awareness rally on Saturday to mark Eye Cancer Awareness Week.
The rally was held from Anna Bus Stand to the hospital premises, with around 200 nurses and eye cancer survivors taking part in the event. The programme, organised under the hospital's Ring of Hope project, also featured awareness sessions, cultural events and interactions in which cancer survivors shared their experiences. The Ring of Hope project has been providing free treatment for eye cancer patients since 2004, benefiting around 16,600 people so far.
Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Vanitha attended the event as the chief guest. Senior doctor Dr Usha Kim presided over the programme, while Dr R D Ravindran, chairman of Aravind Eye Hospital, participated as the special guest.
