TNCCI urges Madurai corpn to reinstall three fishes sculpture
Madurai: Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TNCCI) has urged Madurai corporation to take steps for reinstallation of the iconic three fishes sculpture in front of the corporation tourism plaza near the Kattabomman statue in the city.
Addressing reporters here on Friday, TNCCI president N Jegatheesan said that the 15 feet brass three fishes sculpture has been a landmark of Madurai for around 22 years in front of the Madurai Junction railway station. It was installed by TNCCI. It was removed in 2022 to facilitate the redevelopment work in front of the railway station. However, the statue was not reinstalled at the place after renovations were completed.
He stated that when they filed petitions, Madras high court appointed a committee to identify a location in the city for reinstallation of the fish sculpture. The committee also identified the corporation’s tourism plaza. He said that a work order was also issued after the corporation council approved the location. Despite the same, there is a delay in reinstalling the fish sculpture.
He said that the corporation authorities were not taking steps for reinstallation of the sculpture. The corporation authorities should take immediate steps to implement the court’s direction by taking steps to reinstall the fish sculpture, he urged.
