Madurai: A masked gang launched a sickle attack spree leaving six people injured in Nettur village near Alangulam in Tenkasi district on Friday.
On Friday evening, a gang wearing masks who came to the main road in Nettur village launched an attack on the villagers and others in the village using sickles. They also damaged the two-wheelers and four wheelers parked at the roadside and escaped from the spot.
Six people who sustained injuries were rushed to the primary health centre in Nettur village. Subsequently, the injured were shifted to the Alangulam government hospital for further treatment. Police personnel rushed to the spot and are conducting investigations. The family members of the injured held a protest seeking the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.
Police sources said that preliminary investigations reveal that the gang launched an attack on the villagers over a dispute during a marriage function at the village on Thursday. Special teams have been formed to nab the persons involved in this incident. Heavy police personnel have been deployed at the village.
Meanwhile, a gang assaulted two people in Therkkupatti village in Tirunelveli district for questioning them over driving two-wheelers in a rash and negligent manner. The injured were admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. The Tirunelveli district police have secured four people involved in the attack. During inquiry, police found out the same people were involved in the attacking spree in Nettur village in Tenkasi district. Further investigation is under way.
