SHAMLI: A woman, after doubting her husband's "suspicious activities", searched his belongings and found forged documents—including govt identification such as Aadhaar, passports and educational certificates—bearing his name. She then reported the matter to Shamli police alleging his involvement in her spouse's "anti-national activities".
Police initiated an investigation after the woman lodged the complaint on March 11, and an FIR was registered at Shamli Kotwali police station on Tuesday against her 34-year-old man.
The complainant, Manisha, 33, said she married Mohammad Intazar in 2017. While their relationship was stable initially, he began staying away frequently over the past two years, claiming that he worked as a bouncer in Dehradun.
When Intazar's interaction with his family became less frequent, Manisha told police that she suspected something was amiss. "I went through his belongings and found several forged govt identification documents," she said in a statement to the police.
She added that when she confronted her husband over the phone, Intazar allegedly threatened to kill her and their two children, aged 8 and 10, if she revealed the matter to anyone.
Manisha also alleged that when Intazar returned home in March, he assaulted her and tried to seize the documents. Manisha, however, managed to hold on to some of the documents and approached the police.
SP Ram Sevak Gautam confirmed that a case was filed under BNS sections 336(2) (forgery), 337 (forgery for cheating), 339 (cheating), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt).
Regarding allegations of "anti-national activities" by Intazar, police said a deeper probe is on. Cops are also looking at the possibility of domestic dispute triggering the charges against her husband by the woman.
Authenticity of the alleged forged documents is being verified, and further details are being withheld pending investigation, said police.
