MUMBAI: A crime branch team is in Delhi as it expects
Suresh Bijlani, main accused in the murder of Navi Mumbai builder Sunil Kumar Lahoria, to appear before the Supreme Court on Thursday to seek anticipatory bail. Lahoria was shot dead outside his office on February 16.
The crime branch has filed a caveat before the apex court opposing Bijlani's bail, stating that he is the prime suspect and interrogating him in custody can lead to the arrest of the other absconding accused.
An accused seeking anticipatory bail has to be present in court. The Bombay high court had rejected Bijlani's bail plea last month.
The crime branch arrested Francis Chouri (38) from Ulhasnagar on Tuesday in connection with the murder. Chouri, the seventh person to be arrested in the case, was a member of the back-up team assembled by retired encounter specialist Emmanuel Amolik, crime branch sources said.
Chouri and the other accused had allegedly met Amolik at Vashi railway station, where the murder was reportedly planned a day before the crime.
