MUMBAI: Pradeep Suryavanshi, former senior inspector of the MIDC police station who was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) last month, has finally received his suspension notice. Officials said the notice of his suspension was served to him in Thane jail last week.
According to the Mumbai police manual, any officer arrested who remains inside jail for more than 48 hours automatically faces suspension but sources are wondering why there was so much delay in Suryavanshi's case.

Joint commissioner of police (law and order) Rajnees Seth said, "The order was issued recently but it has been in process and is in effect from the date after he was arrested."
Suryavanshi was arrested on March 3 by the SIT, after eluding the arrest for nearly a month on medical grounds. He is one of the main accused in staged encounter killing of Chhota Rajan aide Ramnarayan Gupta on November 11, 2006.
Suryavanshi had than claimed that he, along with his subordinates, had laid a trap at Nana Nani Park at Versova and Gupta was killed in the exchange of fire. However, Gupta's kin alleged that it was a cold blooded murder. Even the judicial probe confirmed that policemen had picked up Gupta from Sanpada and killed him in Andheri.
The SIT on January 7 arrested five persons—dismissed inspector Pradeep Sharma, his private bodyguard Akhil Khan alias Bobby, two constables Tanaji Desai and Ratnakar Kamble and Hitesh Solanki alias Dabbu and Shailandra Pandey.
