Mumbai: Two youths were arrested for allegedly obstructing two police personnel on patrol duty and snatching their authorised vehicle tracking device worth Rs 38,000 during a late night chase near JVLR flyover on Thursday.
According to an FIR lodged on the basis of a complaint by Vikhroli police constable Mangesh Deshmukh, he and another constable were patrolling the area on a bike when they spotted two persons recklessly riding a motorcycle with a modified silencer and without a registration number. The two allegedly ignored signals to pull over and the one on the pillion snatched an official mobile data transfer tag (MDT) device attached to the police bike. They fled and later escaped into a thicket of bushes. Additional police teams and crime branch officials were called to the spot, a search operation was launched, and the two youths—Akash Dadarao Kharat (23) of Goregaon and Deva Hiwale from Kanjurmarg—were traced after more than an hour. Police recovered the MDT device from Kharat and also seized the motorcycle.
The FIR invokes charges of obstructing govt work, theft and related offences. Further investigation is underway.
