Kalyan: BJP’s Kirit Somaiya on Friday alleged a massive fake birth certificate racket in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation areas, claiming that thousands of bogus birth certificates were issued illegally.
Addressing the media, Somaiya, after meeting chiefs of both civic bodies, alleged that more than 2,000 fake birth certificates had been issued in the KDMC jurisdiction, while over 1,000 such fraudulent certificates were allegedly generated in Ulhasnagar. He demanded a high-level probe into the matter, calling it a serious case of tampering with official government records.
Somaiya claimed that forged and fabricated documents were allegedly used to obtain birth certificates and alleged the possible involvement of middlemen and administrative officials in the process. He first met to UMC commissioner Manisha Awhale with local BJP MLA Kumar Ailani and other BJP functionaries and urged the UMC chief to conduct an impartial and time-bound investigation into the alleged scam.
Somaiya further warned that if strict action was not initiated immediately, the issue could snowball into a major controversy linked to national security and citizen identity records. He demanded that all fake birth certificates be cancelled and stringent legal action be taken against those found guilty.
He also said that following his demand for an inquiry, KDMC commissioner Abhinav Goel assured him that a special investigation team (SIT) would be formed to investigate the allegations. He added that a separate inquiry process had also been initiated in Ulhasnagar.
Somaiya further alleged that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants might have benefited from the fake birth certificate racket to secure identity documents and access official records fraudulently.
