University of Mysore research scholars on Tuesday stage a dharna in Mysuru
Mysuru: Research Scholars Association (non-scholarship), University of Mysore, has urged the university authorities to release scholarships for all the students. In a letter to UoM VC and registrar, the association stated that out of 95 research scholars who applied for scholarships, only 20 were given scholarships to pursue research. “It is causing a lot of hardship for the scholars,” they said. They held a protest in front of Crawford Hall, the varsity headquarters. According to the association members, the UoM is spending Rs 23 crore on non-permanent, non-teaching staff even though the govt directed the university to relieve them. These 1,234 non-teaching staff are paid salaries illegally. “The university made over Rs 138-crore profit in online courses. However, officials are claiming they do not have money to pay for SC/ST students. It is nothing but anti-student policy,” they alleged.
