Nagpur: An auto-rickshaw driver was stoned to death by two of his friends at Madhoknagari area under the MIDC police station limits on Wednesday. MIDC police cracked the case within an hour, relying on human intelligence. One of the suspects has been nabbed while search is on for the other accused. The victim, Akash Barde (28), was having drinks with the duo when a heated argument broke out between them. Later, the quarrel escalated into a brawl. Police said one of the friends picked up a stone and repeatedly smashed it on the Akash's head, while the other held him tightly, killing him on the spot. Both the assailants then fled. Later, one of the accused allegedly boasted in front of a police informer about eliminating his friend.The identity of the victim was known after his wife landed at MIDC police station to lodge a missing complaint. She identified Akash after cops showed her the photos of the body. Akash's wife also named one of the suspects with whom he had left home on Wednesday.DCP Rishikesh Reddy is supervising the investigation. Police have registered a case of murder and are questioning the arrested accused to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
