Nashik: The Jalgaon police arrested two people who were found in possession of two firearms and eight swords on Sunday. The police said that one of the accused was wanted in a murder case registered with the Ramanand police station. The Jalgaon police are interrogating the duo to ascertain their purpose of carrying the weapons and from where they sourced them.
The suspects have been identified as Dhananjay, alias Dhiraj Koli (20), a resident of Paldhi, in Jalgaon's Dharangaon taluka, and Ajay Dole (23), of Neri Digar in Jamner taluka.
The police said that assistant inspector Anil Wagh, of the Jilha Peth police station, received a tip-off on Sunday that Dhiraj Koli, a suspect wanted in a murder case, was roaming about in Jalgaon city.
Wagh then formed a team to trace him. During patrolling, the team spotted Koli and Ajay Dole riding a bike near the R R School. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found a sword and a country-made pistol. Dole told the police that he sold the firearm to Koli.
Following their arrest, the suspects were placed in police custody for three days until Wednesday. Further interrogation led to the recovery of an additional pistol from Koli and seven more swords from Dole.
The police said that the duo was arrested under the guidance of Jalgaon SP Maheswar Reddy, additional SP Ashok Nakhate, and deputy SP Nitin Ganapure.
Police officials said that Koli has cases of attempted murder and rioting registered in different police stations. He is also wanted in a murder case. Dole has a case under the Arms Act registered against him with Ambad police station.
Wagh said that Koli had killed another youth near the place of his residence about one and a half months back. He had been on the run since then.
Koli brought the swords from Rajasthan to sell to people. Wagh said that on Wednesday the court remanded them to 14 days' judicial custody.
