Nashik gets its maiden eye-bank
NASHIK: Shri Guruji Hospital of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Medical mission has opened the first eye-bank with all modern facilities in city on January 7. The eye-bank named after Dr B S Moonje, founder of the Bhonsala Military School in city, who also was a well-known eye-specialist and surgeon. The eye-bank was dedicated to public in a function held on Sunday.

It will function from Shri Guruji hospital at Anandvalli in Nashik.
“Bringing about a social change through the health services is the motive of Shri Guruji hospital. The eye-bank will serve the needy patients and spread the much-needed awareness about eye-donation in society,” said Dr Anand Pandhare, executive president of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Medical Foundation, Aurangabad after dedicating the eye-bank. He also praised the young team of doctors and managers at Nashik’s Shri Guruji hospital for their work.
Industrialist Santoshchand Lodha, President of Foundation Anil Bhalerao, executive secretary of the Central Hindu Military Education Society (CHME) of Nashik Pramod Kulkarni, Dr Pawan Sthapak of ‘Saksham’ group in Jabalpur and vice-president of Shri Guruji hospital Mukund Khadilkar were present on the dais.
After formally inaugurating the eye-bank, Santoshchand Lodha declared Rs 70,000 aid for the various eye-surgeries to be performed through this eye bank in future. Dr Sthapak appealed people to be aware about eye-donation as well as the organ donation movement and support the same for the benefit of humanity. He also told that Dr Moonje, whose name has been given to this eye-bank had written a thesis on ‘Eye transplant and treatment’ in Sanskrit language some 100 years ago.
