Chains of two women stolen during Vat Savitri Puja

Patna: In an incident during a religious gathering, an elderly woman and her daughter-in-law found their gold chains missing while performing Vat Savitri Puja under Buddha Colony police station area on Saturday.The two women came to offer prayers at the sacred tree where a large number of women had assembled for the ritual. During the puja, the daughter-in-law, Komal, noticed that her chain was missing. Upon checking, the mother-in-law also found that her chain had been stolen. Police registered a case based on the complaint that around 10-12 grams of gold chains were stolen.A special team was formed to investigate the matter. Officers are currently scanning CCTV footage and examining all possible leads. Krishna Murari Prasad, ASP (law and order-I), Patna, said: “A case has been registered in this connection. During the puja, one of the women noticed that her ‘mangalsutra’ was missing. She informed others, and upon checking, her mother-in-law also found her chain missing,” he said.“It appears that someone in the crowd distracted the victims and removed the chains from their necks. This is being treated as a case of theft. We have initiated technical surveillance and are analysing camera footage. However, the identity of the thief has not yet been established,” the ASP said.Prasad added: “There were a large number of women present, and we are working to identify the suspect through body language, appearance and other investigative methods. A dedicated team has been formed to nab the culprit.”
