CID takes over Gopalganj Arms case against Anant Singh
Patna: Troubles mounted for Mokama JD(U) MLA Anant Singh after the state govt handed over the probe into the Gopalganj Arms Act case to the Crime Investigation Department (CID), four days after an MP-MLA court stayed his arrest in the case. Police have transferred the case diary and related documents to the CID, which will reinvestigate the matter.
The case relates to a ‘janeu’ ceremony held on April 2-3 at the house of Guddu Rai at Semraon village under Mirganj police station in Gopalganj. Singh attended the event along with a large number of supporters, with arrangements made for food and accommodation.
During the function, illegal/prohibited and licensed weapons were allegedly brandished, and obscene dances were performed. A video of the event surfaced on social media and went viral, prompting the registration of an FIR at Mirganj police station.
The FIR alleged that several persons were seen displaying weapons at the event. However, the MP-MLA court observed that the video appeared to be AI-generated and no weapon was visible in Singh’s hands, granting him interim relief and staying his arrest. Relief was limited to Singh, while eight other accused were named in the case. The court has reserved its order, with the next hearing scheduled for May 30.
The accused include organiser Guddu Rai, Utsav Rai, Priyanshu Kumar, Tishu Rai, Saurav Kumar Rai, Vishal Rai, Sunil Yadav, Anant Singh and Gunjan Singh, along with several unidentified persons.
In the viral clip, Singh is seen seated in the front row watching a mujra performance and clapping as the dancer approaches him. Some attendees are seen showering currency notes, while others appear to be dancing with weapons. The CID will examine the authenticity of the video and the role of all those named.
