Patna: Unidentified criminals shot at a govt school teacher in Jamui district on Friday morning while he was on way to catch a train for work. He sustained a bullet injury to his right shoulder in the attack near Bishanpur village.
The injured teacher, Gautam Kumar Das, 36, is a resident of Matiya village under Laxmipur police station area. He is posted at a govt school in Kajra panchayat of Lakhisarai district. His father, Mahesh Ravidas, is a former mukhiya of Matiya panchayat, while his mother, Mohini Devi, is the current mukhiya.
According to police, Gautam was heading to Malaypur railway station on his motorcycle to board a train to Kajra when the incident occurred. Near Bishanpur, three masked men on a motorcycle allegedly chased and overtook him, forcing him to stop before opening fire.
“Criminals were chasing me. They overtook and stopped my bike. As soon as I stopped, they fired at my head. I was wearing a helmet, so it came off and fell. The second bullet hit my shoulder. Somehow I gathered courage, picked up the helmet, put it on, and ran towards the village,” said Gautam.
A patrol team from Barhat police station reached the spot soon after the incident.
Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar shifted the injured teacher to a hospital. Following primary treatment at a private clinic in Jamui, he was referred to Patna for advanced medical care.
Jamui SDPO Satish Suman said, “Police from Barhat and Lakshmipur stations are inspecting the spot and other locations. The technical team is scanning CCTV footage from around the place. An FSL team has also reached and is collecting evidence. Police are investigating the matter,” said the SDPO.
Police have launched raids to arrest the accused. According to the injured teacher’s mother, Gautam had received a threat from a person a few days ago. Whether the attack was linked to political rivalry or another dispute will become clear only after the investigation, the SDPO added.
