Life term to ex-MLA in murder case

chapra: the sixth additional district and sessions judge, amaresh kumar lal, on wednesday awarded rigorous life imprisonment along with fine of rs 5,000 each to ex-mla from marhaurrah surendra sharma and his brother satyendra sharma on the charge of murdering america singh in the year 1994. america singh, who was earlier a close associate of the ex-mla, was gunned down when he was returning to his house at dahiyawan tola mohalla by his maruti van.the brother of the deceased, dilip singh, had lodged an fir with the chapra town police bearing no 236/94 under sections 302 and 27 arms act, alleging that while america singh was returning to his house on 4.10.94, the ex-mla and his brother fired at him with a stengun and revolver causing his instantaneous death. the ex-mla had contended before the court that on the day of the incident, he was away to darjeeling to attend the meeting of an assembly committee.but the court held the ex-mla and his brother guilty of murder.
