Medical aspirant’s family questions CBI handover of probe, alleges evidence tampering
Patna: The family of the deceased medical aspirant has expressed scepticism and serious allegations over the state govt’s recommendation to hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), claiming the decision came far too late, after crucial evidence may have already been tampered with or erased. The victim’s maternal uncle voiced distrust over both the timing and intent behind the CBI referral. “When the SIT was being formed, we were demanding CBI. Why did they not give it? After so much time passed, now they are saying they are handing it over to CBI,” he told TOI on Saturday, suggesting that the delay created room for manipulation of evidence.

He alleged that the police pushed a suicide narrative from the very beginning, despite what he claimed were emerging forensic indications pointing otherwise. “They will forcefully say the girl died by suicide, we will accept it – it’s not possible. They said it was a poisoning case; nothing happened to her; she died by suicide – this was done from the very beginning. The girl told her mother on Jan 8 that something happened to her, when she briefly gained consciousness at the hospital,” he said. The uncle said the family’s suspicions deepened early in the case, particularly after learning that the hostel room was cleaned and bedsheets washed on Jan 7 while the girl was still unconscious.
“We got suspicious at that time only — why are people washing, why cleaning? It is a very big game,” he alleged.Referring to recent interactions with senior officials, including a chaotic meeting at Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar’s residence, he claimed the family faced pressure tactics, inconsistent demands for samples and attempts to isolate individual family members. “They are all sold out. We are ready to give samples of the entire village, but where is the scope for justice with these people? We could not see it,” he said.Vowing to continue the struggle, the uncle said, “We raised our voice for justice from the beginning and until we get justice, we will keep doing something, no matter what happens.”After a brief meeting with the DGP, the family said it remained deeply frustrated with the investigation and openly expressed a complete lack of faith in the Bihar Police. On Friday, the victim’s mother told the reporters, “There is no one here to deliver justice for my daughter. The police are all sold out.”She described the probe as fundamentally flawed and alleged that the authorities were treating the family as suspects rather than victims. “We approached them for justice, but we are receiving none. It is as though we are the guilty ones,” she said.
