Nitish inspects key projects in Bakhtiyarpur, orders to expedite works
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday inspected several development projects in and around his hometown Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district and directed officials to expedite the work on key infrastructure, including the under-construction railway overbridge (ROB), his school’s new building, and the Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur four-lane bridge over the Ganga.
The CM first inspected the ROB near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College (BEC) and told officials that the ROB connecting NH-30 and SH-106 should be completed soon. “Once this project is ready, the Patna–Bakhtiyarpur old road (SH-106) and the new 4-lane (NH-30) will be linked, easing traffic and saving time. Connectivity to BEC will improve and traffic will become smoother,” he said. Officials informed him that construction of the 2-lane ROB would be completed this month.
The CM further said that both BEC and Patliputra University would get direct connectivity from the old and new roads, benefitting students and teachers.
Nitish then reviewed the construction of the new building of his alma mater, Ganesh Higher Secondary School, Bakhtiyarpur. The five-storey structure has 45 classrooms. “Its construction should be completed at the earliest so that students face no inconvenience,” he said. Inspecting the old building of the school, he said, “I studied in this school during my childhood. My old memories are attached to it.”
He further directed officials to expedite the construction of the park being developed near the statue of freedom fighter Late Dumar Singh, located close to the school campus.
Nitish later inspected the under-construction Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan)–Tajpur (Samastipur) 4-lane bridge and its approach road over the Ganga, and reviewed progress.
Road construction department secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal informed him that work on the bridge and approach road was progressing rapidly and would be completed by the end of this year. The CM asked officials to speed up the project.
“This bridge will be crucial for improving connectivity between North and South Bihar and easing public movement. It will also reduce traffic load on Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu. It will serve as an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur and Begusarai,” he said.
A crowd welcomed Nitish at the site, expressing gratitude for the development works underway.
The Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur 4-lane bridge and approach road starts from NH-31 near Karjan (Bakhtiyarpur) in Patna district and connects to NH-28 at Tajpur in Samastipur district. The total length of the road is 51.26 km, including a 5.51-km bridge over the Ganga and a 45.75-km approach road.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Women's day wishes, messages and quotes !
