Gaya: Former Magadh University registrar Sushil Kumar Singh on Tuesday told a Gaya court that the BA degree of Punjab policeman Parampal Singh appeared to be fake as he had passed his Intermediate examination from Punjab in 1989 while also claiming to have cleared the BA examination from Magadh University in the same year as a student of Kisan College, Sohsarai.
The claim was “simply not possible” and therefore “outrightly untenable”, the former registrar said.
Sushil told the court that as per university records, Parampal Singh was never enrolled at Kisan College, Sohsarai, now a constituent unit of Patliputra University (PPU). He alleged some university employees manipulated and tampered with the tabulation register to favour Parampal.
He further said the university had constituted a three-member inquiry committee on the direction of the state information commission to verify the genuineness of the degree and certificate issued in Parampal Singh’s name. The committee reportedly found the documents were not genuine.
According to the former registrar, the university’s examination board, chaired by the then vice-chancellor, later suspended the degree and certificate and issued Parampal a showcause notice in 2014.
“The university had allotted roll numbers 13401 to 13531 to examinees from Kisan College, Sohsarai, and Parampal Singh’s name does not appear in the same,” Sushil said.
Additional public prosecutor Ujala Singh said the former registrar reiterated before the court the statement he had made during the investigation. The case is being heard in the court of Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary, judicial magistrate first class (JMFC).
