PWC girls exhorted to register their names in electoral roll

PATNA: The electoral literacy club (ELC) of Patna Women’s College (PWC), in association with the Election Commission of India, on Thursday organised an electoral literacy drive for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college. Hundreds of college girls attended the programme and took a pledge to create awareness in the society about the advantages of exercising their right to franchise and electing their true representative.

The main objective of the programme was to educate the students about the importance of voting.

Patna district magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh gave the details of the electoral literacy campaign launched in educational institutions for motivating the students above 18 years of age for getting them registered as voters. He also interacted with the girls and replied satisfactorily to all their queries. “Active participation in the voting process helps in making a good government and it is the duty of all citizens to exercise their franchise,” the DM said.

Revision of electoral rolls open till Dec 9

Citizens and new voters can register during the ongoing special summary revision until December 9. The Election Commission of India has announced this revision with a qualifying date of January 1, 2024. Assistant Collector, Revenue, appeals to the electorate, including persons with disabilities (PwDs), to participate in the election process. PwDs can influence decisions and policy makers by casting their vote. The Election Commission is holding a review meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of all states.

Chhattisgarh assembly polls: All arrangements made for counting of votes, says Chief Electoral Officer

All arrangements for the counting of votes in Chhattisgarh have been completed and sufficient officials have been appointed for the same in all the 90 assembly constituencies. The counting of votes will take place from 8 am in all 90 assembly constituencies in the state for assembly elections 2023 on Sunday. For counting of votes, 90 returning officers, 416 assistant returning officers, 4596 counting personnel and 1698 micro observers have been appointed. Mobile phones will be prohibited in the counting hall while it will be permitted in the media centre and communication centre on the counting premises.

Counting of votes will be held on Sunday in assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana in what is seen as a semi-final contest ahead of the general elections in less than six months. The Congress, which is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and the BJP, which is ruling Madhya Pradesh, are locked in a straight fight in these three states, while K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is hoping for a hat-trick in Telangana.
