To convey big message, Bihar man takes donkey ride to file papers

PATNA: In a bizarre incident, a man took a donkey ride to reach a local collectorate to file his nomination papers for Gopalganj Lok Sabha seat on Friday, drawing the attention of the masses. Gopalganj goes to poll in the sixth phase on May 25, along with seven other parliamentary constituencies of north Bihar.
It caught everyone’s attention when 45-year-old Satyendra Baitha, a resident of Shyampur village under Kuchaykot police station, moved through the city streets to reach the local collectorate, riding his donkey and wearing garlands around his neck.
Baitha, who has been in active politics since 2001, said the purpose of taking donkey ride was to make the people aware about the importance of votes and choose their candidates judiciously.
“Almost every leader from Gopalganj has made us fool after winning elections. Whenever the people visited their MP for any work, they were normally told the Saheb is away. So, this is time to exercise their franchise judiciously and vote for the right candidate,” Baitha told the TOI after filing his nominations on Friday. He filed his papers as an Independent candidate.
Alleging no representatives have taken care of the people or ensured proper development of Gopalganj, Baitha warned the leaders against befooling the voters. said Baitha who unsuccessfully contested the last two LS elections. Baitha was earlier elected as district council member.
